JAZZ IN FOUR SEASONS
Four albums. Four seasons. A musical journey across cities and cultures.
I am thrilled to announce Jazz in Four Seasons, an ambitious four-album series that will follow the changing seasons as they unfold in different corners of the world. Each volume will be a unique collaboration with local musicians, blending timeless jazz standards and original compositions with distinctive cultural accents. From the gentle stirrings of spring to the frosty interludes of winter, the character of the seasons will shape my song choices, musical arrangements, and improvisational explorations.
The settings for this musical odyssey are places that have become deeply meaningful to me over decades of traveling and touring. Venturing beyond the typical jazz hotspots and Anglo-centric viewpoints, I want to explore how this quintessentially American art form has been embraced and reinterpreted as it has traveled the globe. Each destination will add its own special resonance to the project.
In a sense, Jazz in Four Seasons is my love letter to my nomadic life. It's a way to celebrate the beautiful songs that have been my constant companions no matter where I find myself in the world. And by engaging in cross-cultural collaborations, even incorporating traditional instruments at times, I hope to gently trace the fascinating evolution of jazz as it crosses borders while still preserving the essence of what makes it so universally loved.
I invite you to join me on this globetrotting musical adventure as we experience the endlessly colorful expressions of jazz in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

SPRING

SUMMER

WINTER

You Must Believe In Spring
We begin, as we must, with Spring - the most hopeful and capricious of seasons. A time of renewal and awakening, luring you from your porch with summer's promise, only to surprise you with a sudden downpour. Spring indeed, where even the calendar mocks us with its April Fools.
For this first volume, I chose Prague, the luscious, ancient, mysterious city of a hundred spires. It is the beating heart of a brave, proud and beautiful country, rich in deep traditions. Why Prague, you may ask? A musical journey of my own began here many years ago. Travelling from Australia, I collected a rental car in Paris and completely alone, I drove east. With my eyes wide and hands gripping the wheel tightly, I crossed a thousand kilometers to meet a band and begin my very first European tour. Prague was the perfect start for that tour, just as Prague is the perfect start for this one.
Don't expect a predictable bouquet of love songs with "spring" in every title. I have curated a collection celebrating the smallest creatures to the most luscious blooms; from being caught in a downpour without an umbrella, to the gentle warmth of sunlight on a May morning. I've even captured that exquisite melancholy of walking beneath flowering trees while gloriously, unapologetically alone.
Within, you'll discover treasures from Duke Ellington, Tadd Dameron, Dave Brubeck and more, brought to life with the talent of four of Prague's most accomplished jazz musicians. Together, we paint a musical portrait of spring in all its tempestuous, tender beauty. A fitting tribute to the season of new beginnings, and to the city that launched my own musical odyssey so long ago.

A little about
Hetty Kate

British-Australian vocalist Hetty Kate brings a pure tone and natural artistry to the jazz tradition. Compared to "a good champagne: simultaneously effervescent and restrained" by the Sydney Morning Herald, Hetty's distinctive approach balances her unwavering respect for the lyric with spontaneity and wit.
Nurtured in Melbourne's vibrant jazz scene, Hetty's musical journey has since spanned 28 countries, with performances at major international festivals and a significant tenure as the featured vocalist in Australian Jazz Luminary James Morrison's touring bands, including his award-winning symphonic concert "The A to Z of Jazz."
Praised as "one of the best swing-style singers on the current scene" (Will Friedwald, Author & Critic USA), Hetty's recordings and live performances showcase her "poised vocal line," and "precise, on-point phrasing" (Alain Thomas, Couleurs Jazz FR), and talent for showcasing "a repertoire of such quality" (Eric Myers, Loudmouth Ezine, Music Trust AU).
Now based in Paris, Hetty continues to tour internationally across Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, sharing her passion for beautiful songs with audiences around the world.
